Warehouse

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I know this isn't the answer you want, but practice....No matter how anyone explains to you, I dont think it will help, you will just sit down one day and *CLICK* you will understand it...That is what happens to me for 99% of dave songs.

what i did was just work on picking the notes in the verse, not srumming. Get used to the notes that your fingers need to be on, then, once you have that down, you can start working on the strumming. you have to be good at muting to play this song, so if you aren't too good at that, there are plenty of other DMB songs you can practice to get that down.

Hope this helps, its how I learned it.

dont strum

a good way, in my opinion, is to not strum, and then just place your fingers where they should go, at the same pace that you would hear the strumming in your head, so just place your fingers on the correct fret/string... and hear the song in your head, and you will train your fingers to go to the correct position, and at the same pace to hold the rhythm... i know it sounds confusing, but im sure this will help, if anyone can understand what im trying to say let me know, or if u dont ill try and explain better

Some good advice so far in this post. I would say the same: DO NOT expect this one to come to you too fast, just practice picking the correct notes then eventually the strumming/muting thing will fall into place. I also recommend downloading as many versions of the song as you can from Kazaa, Grokster, whatever. Listen to the studio version, Listener Supported, Red Rocks, Luther College, Storytellers, Recently, etc. I was a able to pick up so many little points from each of them. Good luck with it....

It helped me quite a bit when I first started playing this song was to not play the 4th string on the 7th fret in the verse, like the tab says (and how Dave plays it) but instead play it on the 3rd string at the 12th fret with my pinky. It's not as accurate but it sounds just the same. After you get good at strumming it and getting the rhythm down, then you can do it Dave's way (the hard way).

The verse is a breeze, as is the little lead-in to the verse. Good one to know, I'd say it's Dave's best.

that's how i played it forever, its a lot easier way and sounds the same or close to the same.
