ants marching muting\style help

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Alright... mute the low E on the slides with the top finger (middle the first time, index the second) by pressing the tip of your finger against it while still sliding just in case you accidentally hit it. Get more accurate and down stroking to hit just one note. The strings below should be muted by holding the fingers on your left hand over them. Always keep them close to the board. I wish I had a video so I could do a clip but most guitar books that I've read talk about keeping your fingers perpendicular to the fret board but when trying to play Dave's music, you need to keep them tight over the rest of the strings so you can strum most if not all of the strings while only sounding a few.

Sorry if that makes no sense, but that's the best I could do.

That is the best way to explain it. As soon as I read that which was awhile ago it was only a good practice until I got it. The hardest thing to do is to mute the strings below the strings you are playing. To do this like kukini said just lay your index finger flat over the fretboard to mute the strings while your playing the slides. Also it is importan to strum accurately not every damn string. Just read what kukini said and if you cant get the rhythm there really is no hope for you. Thank you kukini for helping me.
