What are some of the harder DMB songs?

the chorus wasn't hard for tripping billies...the verse took a while, though.

and lessons can help if you're stuck at a certain point...there are certain things you may miss along the way if you're self-taught, but they'll probably appear later on, though learning them earlier will make it easier. it'll also help give you a direction as to where you need to get going. yeah, it improves with experience, but always ALWAYS challenge yourself or else you will never have experience to learn from. i'm sure other people have better advice than i do, though.

Don't fret! It took me nearly a year before I could play a dave song all the way through. And that was crash, for god's sake! Start with easy songs and just learn harder and harder ones.

I think all of Dave's songs are hard to play and sing, but I have a shitty voice so I just play. Playing most of them is pretty difficult at first, but I found that if I relax, be patient, and apply myself that all of his songs are fairly easy.

This is true, I am horrible at guitar. I never took a lesson and never pushed myself to learn anything difficult. Once I started playing dave stuff it got really exciting. I'm sure 99% of this board is better than me, but I'd be willing to bet when I finally learn a song I enjoy it 10x as much.
Just keep practicing every note over and over till you can play it up to speed and be patient.

WWYS-I always forget what i'm supposed to be playing
OSW intro - god I wish i could play it, i just get frustrated

oh ya, and anything off of everyday is difficult to play.
Not technically, just morally.

I don't know what my problem is, but I cannot for the life of me play and sing What Would You Say. Even when I play the uber-slow version he does with Timmy I sound like I barely know the lyrics. I think that's the hardest one

The good thing about being self taught, if you sucessfuly do it, you create your own style of singing and playing. That makes you stand out just a little more from most.

Lessons are great, but if you completely rely on them, you start to sound just like the teacher, and some of the originality goes away. Also, when you start playing guitar, my advise is, don't touch a pick for at least 6 months. Learn to finger strum and finger pick from the begining, because it really is easier than trying to learn after you have been disabled by and rely on using a pick.

Amen to that! I started using a pick, and now I'm severely fingerpicking impaired. Of course, I prefer straight up strumming by far, but it'd be nice to diversify. I just wish I had someone like Ranting Thespian to tell me that sooner!

agrred, i can either remember the notes or the lyrics, I try and do both and it sounds like a train wreck.

#1. i don't think fingerpicking is that great, a pick is fine. #2. im picking up on fingerpicking pretty easy, i played WAYG maybe twice and had it down pretty well.

lol true wayg is easy. (gig was a bit tougher) i don't see why you can't just use a pick. also the snap of the fingers on strings is nice but i think the tone is better with a pick.

hehe. personal preference, i suppose. i learned guitar without a pick...love the mellow, chill sound. but i also suck at using a pick. so that's okay.
