WareHouse Question

Unread post by GimiZigi » Wed Oct 26, 2005 8:55 pm

Being new to the forum and a fan of DMB as well, I learned Warehouse before but when I came to the website, I saw that the tabs were different.

The website tabs are as follows...

E-----------------------------------------------
B-x--x--x--x-x-x--x-x-x----x--x--x--x-x-x--x-x--
G-x--x--x--7-x-x--x-x-x----x--x--x--7-x-x--x-x--
D-x--x--11---9-x--x-x-x----x--x--11---9-x--x-x--
A-x--9---------10-x-x-x----x--9---------10-9-7--
E-7---------------x-x-x----7--------------------
1 2 4 1 2 3 1 2 4 1 2 3 2 1 <------What do these #'s mean?

But the way I learned warehouse is as follows...

E-x--x---x----x---x---x---x
B-x--x---x----x---x---x---x
G-x--x---x----x---x---x---x
D-x--x---11--12--9---x---x
A-x--9----------------10---9
E-7----------------------------

Does it matter which way I play it? It all sounds the same to me and my way seems a lot easier since I have my index finger always baring.
Also, while playing it the "real" way, when you strum, what strings are you hitting?

Thanks for the help!

Those are your fingers

i notice a big difference. i would follow the sites tab simply because thats how Dave plays it, and also the intro follows better with the DMB tab

it's up to you how you like to play! just telling you what i think

and also Welcome to the boards!

The site way is correct in the technical sense. The other way is still correct notewise. I'd learn it the way the site has it. Not only will it help you improve, but you will also find other Dave songs to be easier if you can play it like this.

Also the numbers under the tab are for your fingers:
1=index
2=middle
3=ring
4=pinky

They are both the same pitch, D. It shouldn't matter. Dave plays it the way tabbed on this site but just because dave does it doesn't mean it is the best way or the most economical. There are a couple of songs were I have made some changes to make it more economical.

I guess it depends how anal you are when you are playing because though they are the same notes, playing them on different strings will result in a slightly different tone color. Personally, I like to learn the way Dave plays and then experiment with different ways of playing the same thing to add different colors and subtlties to the songs.

You are correct that they are different tones but the difference is minimal, IMO.

If warehouse is hard for you, the muting and strumming part, try the version in "Recently," the single album, its alot easier.
