quick question, 6 or 12?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

quick question, 6 or 12?

Unread post by shaggy » Mon Oct 03, 2005 9:11 pm

I have a talent show coming up and im planning to play Raven solo. Even though Dave plays the acoustic version on a 6 string, I have a choice of a 12 also. Even though obviously when it comes down to it's up to me, would it be a good idea to pull out the 12 string for a solo of it or just stay with the 6?

Thanks,
shaggy

Hmmm, interesting dilemma. I'm a huge fan of 12 string guitar, and I'm trying to hear how it might sound solo on a 12 in my head, and depending on how you play (your style and form), it might work very well. But again, that's up to you. I'd have to actually hear side by side comparisons to make a decision as to what I like, but again, up to you. My $.02. :)

Hmmm, after hearing it on a 12, I'd have to agree: 6 string for a solo performance. Most definitely. But again, totally up to you.

I think i rather like the 12 version if your playing solo. I used to have a 12 and so i can't play it myself. If your singing i think you should throw in a lot of extra muting though.
If you can't sing or mute well then just use a six string and roll with what you got but if your voice can carry well then go with the twelve and let the guitar back up your vocals. Raven is a tough one to do solo. Check out dave playin' it solo(on a sixer) and then make your decision.

I thought it sounded pretty cool on the 12-string.

That would be quite difficult.
