So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

i have the same problem. the best advice i can give you is to watch him play it acoustic solo so you can really see what dave is doing. if you have Kaza, search for video only and type "the stone(the charlie rose show) and watch how dave plays it. Also, when you mute, to make it a bit easier, only mute the strings below where you are playing and leave the strings above alone. yeah i know its cheap, but it helps a little bit. Good luck with that, it is a frustrating song to get right :D

i find when i play the stone i hold the pick a little bit differentle, between thumb and middle finger, it helps with that double 5 that seems to throw most people up.

he mutes the bottom strings with the 1 finger and somehow mutes the top E and A with his 3rd - doing the latter is whats giving me trouble right now

on the chorus, I mute the high e and b strings with my 4 finger, and the low E and A strings with my 2nd and or 3rd finger

i think the best thing to do is practice hitting the notes, and playing in time...you can add the soul and mutting and all the extras after you have the basics down.

Yeah, i suggest downloading the videos from kazaa. There are two acoustic videos- the charlie rose showand a radio station performance. You can see how dave does it there. I've learned to play it quite easily since i can already play warehouse but i play it with full muting. I play the stone by just strumming the strings as exact as i can and i just mute the lower strings. I don't know if dave fully strums it but it seems like he doesn't on the videos and I can play it sounding exactlty the same as dave.
