pain in my thumb
just recently everytime i play tough stretches like in songs crash and satellite... after maybe a min of constant playing i get a sharp pain in the base of my thumb. by the time i get to the chorus in satellite the pain is unbearable. i was just wondering if anyone had any advice on this kind of pain?
I had the same problem when I was just starting out with guitar. The more you play, the stronger it will get. It just takes time for the muscles to get used to stretches. It also helps if you practice with a nylon string guitar, then you won't have to press down as hard. After you get that down, you can try a steel-string.

Also, those stretches aren't that tough if you have relatively big hands and a nice guitar. For example, on my guitar (which is huge) playing Captain is simply not possible unless you have Michael Jordan hands.
Try pulling down your entire hand more. The more you lower your hand, the easier it is to keep it parallel to the neck of the guitar, this should ease up a little for the muscles. But usually the thumb's base hurts when you need to press down on the strings really hard and not because of the stretches, so think about that.
