I think it is a little easier and sounds a little better. It's easier to go to the F chord.

You might as well stick with the way Dave plays it, it'll be easier when the picked solo comes around.

Indeed playing the verse closer to F makes it easier timing wise, but playing the verse on the E & A strings makes it easier for cleaner mutes IMO.

I do the Dave way for muting as well, but it's easier for those not being able to hit the F in time to play it on the A and D strings.

I never had trouble with the verse, it was the second chord to the chorus/bridge that I play different because I didn't like the progression that has been tabbed. I've played it live like this below, and it was an easy switch and it sounded good. It's the same note, just not the stretch. Whattaya think? I haven't seen a video of Dave playing this song. I try to stay as accurate to Dave as possible, so if he plays this the way that it has been tabbed then I'll make the switch.

Don't be "oh god I need to play just like Dave!" If it's comfortable, just do it your way.

Oh, and by the way...

DMBTabs, welcome to it.

i play that part with all power chords. i think it sounds fuller. (all on the top 3 strings to clarify, i forget the frets, but it's pretty easy to figure out)
