Easy way of playing Captain??

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Easy way of playing Captain??

Unread post by BOWA40 » Thu Jul 14, 2005 2:20 pm

I have been playing guitar on and off for a while now and I'm having a hard time playing Captain by the tabs that the site has. If anyone has any easier way of playing this song I would really appreciate it. Thanks

So you have these parts with the long stretches, right?

Code: Select all

Verse
This whole section is a HUGE stretch, it hurts, but it's how Dave plays it
Listen to song for rhythm, he plays this once and then again at half speed
E:-------------------
B:-4-----------------
G:-1----4----7----6--
D:-2----1----4----2--
A:-4----2----5----4--
E:------4----7----5--

Lead Into "Roll me back again..." from Verse
E:------------------------
B:-4--------------2-------
G:-1----4----7----2----1--
D:-2----1----4----2----2--
A:-4----2----5----0----2--
E:------4----7------------
                  1
"...I'm coming back again"
E:----------------------------------3-3--
B:-4--------------------5---------1-0-0--
G:-1----4----7----7-----6----5----x-0-0--
D:-2----1----4----6-----6----x----2-0-0--
A:-4----2----5----5-----4----3----3-2-2--
E:------4----7----4-----------------3-3--
To get rid of the stretches try this:

Code: Select all

Verse
E:-------------------
B:-4-----------------
G:-x----4----7----6--
D:-2----x----x----x--
A:-4----2----5----4--
E:------4----7----5--

Lead Into "Roll me back again..." from Verse
E:------------------------
B:-4--------------2-------
G:-x----4----7----2----1--
D:-2----x----x----2----2--
A:-4----2----5----0----2--
E:------4----7------------
                  1
"...I'm coming back again"
E:----------------------------------3-3--
B:-4--------------------5---------1-0-0--
G:-x----4----7----7-----6----5----x-0-0--
D:-2----x----x----x-----6----x----2-0-0--
A:-4----2----5----5-----4----3----3-2-2--
E:------4----7----4-----------------3-3--
It makes it a bit easier, but less full. You should really try to play it with the stretches, as that will get the muscles in your hand stretched out and used to it. It will open up a whole new world for you. So for now, try it this way, but make sure to still practice it the right way.
