Help with So Damn Lucky
Help with So Damn Lucky
Help! I've been working up DMB tunes for just a month or so now and am struggling with the strumming on SDL. I think I have the 12/8 timing down with the left hand but I'm not clear on how the strumming lays into it. I've looked at Pat's video, but that's a left-hand only version. Anyone with a video that includes the right hand so I can iron this one out? I'd be much obliged.

AOL SESSIONS
I know dave did a gig for AOL sessions. He played a lot of stuff from Some Devil (solo cd) including that song. You can access it at aolmusic.com i believe. If not, I have the full sessions vid so just hit me up with a PM.
I poked around on AOL and found everything but the SDL or a full session. Sorry to be ignorant, but what's a PM? I'd give it to you if I knew what it was and knew I had it (sorry!).
I'd have to install soulseek tonight after work (things are locked down here pretty tightly). Would the video be too big for an email? I'd love to get it - i've picked up a few of yours already and the've been a big big help.
I've got the vid from farmaid, but there's no guitar showing on it. plus the file is a little fucked up and skips parts, etc.
Thanks all for responsding. It's nice to find a place where I can let me DMB/guitar obsessions out without the old lady just laughing at me.

A great solo performance of all some devil material and #41. but too big for email. if you want to get the whole thing from me PM me later or best of luck with jayme's vid.djwhd28 wrote:Let me work on installing soulseek tonight. I'll PM you when I'm done and you can give me the scoop on how to access the file.

Clips or no clips. You gotta practice and it takes time. The strumming didn't get me it was the two finger hammer on with the partial barring with your index on fret 9.
Great song and actually very easy to play and sing along with when you get the timing down. Keep practicing, I know you can do it.

~ And rain washed away all her tears and I smiled done away was the sum of all my fears ~
practice, practice, practice. i know it will come. the hammeron stuff is coming along and the timing of that, once i got the 12/8 time signature in my head, was straight ahead. now i just have to make it sound clean (that is the practice, practice, practice part). but i can't hear the rhythym of the strumming. if i could see the pattern in my head, i'd be happy to practice all day long to get it into my hand. SDL is such a beautiful song. the car accident as a metaphore for falling in love...shit, this guy is such a poet. it's part of what makes the songs so much more than just learning to play the music.
anyway, thanks for the encouragement. my wife thinks i'm frigging nuts, but i feel at home here with this crew. thanks for being here.

Shows what I know, I thought that the song was based on an actual event in his life.djwhd28 wrote:practice, practice, practice. i know it will come. the hammeron stuff is coming along and the timing of that, once i got the 12/8 time signature in my head, was straight ahead. now i just have to make it sound clean (that is the practice, practice, practice part). but i can't hear the rhythym of the strumming. if i could see the pattern in my head, i'd be happy to practice all day long to get it into my hand. That's cool you like it here, it really is more of a family than a message board. So enjoy, dont take anything personal and enjoy.

Okay sorry to bring up an old post. But a while ago I tried playing SDL and was discouraged. Without touching the song I picked up the guitar today and played it perfect the first time. Very satisfying song to play. The transitions are what it's all about. Okay enough ranting, I've got finals to study for. That is all.
