Christmas Song - Hammer or Slide?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Christmas Song - Hammer or Slide?

Unread post by bakemm » Wed Aug 20, 2003 8:19 pm

Dave's Christmas Song is the first song that I am learning on guitar. However, I learned the song using a "hammer" on 4h5. However, this site says to use a slide.

Does it really make a difference. Is the sound of the song changed?

What are your thoughts? Thanks

It's really not that huge of a difference, i don't think.

Dave just plays it with a slide

Just play it whatever way you like best

i also learned to hammer on, but now i find sliding sounds much better. easier, looks & sounds smoother too, IMO.

some classical guitarist may argue the difference between sliding one fret on the hammer on. most will agree it blends a little smoother with the slide; preventing a choppy sound.

Thanks guys. I'll try out the slide, but right now the "choppier" of the two is the slide. It sound sort of.... well... it doesn't sound very smooth. I guess that will come with practice.

Thanks
