how many stand up songs will you learn to play?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

how many stand up songs will you learn to play?

Unread post by seth_southerland » Mon May 23, 2005 10:56 pm

what bothers me the most about this cd is that all but two of the songs look like they would be too boring for me to learn to play. i like all of the songs, but they just dont sound interesting enough to where i'd want to learn them, is anyone else this way?

i learned smooth rider, and i kinda knew hello again from before, but thats all i'm probably going to learn...:(

I agree, these guitar parts for the most part are boring an uninspired compared to what he is capable of. I've learned most of them just for the hell of it but the only ones I will continue to play are Hello Again, You Might Die Trying, Stand Up and Out Of My Hands which isnt even a guitar part.

i love smooth rider, and trouble with you on the sidekick is exellent, but i haven't tried the guitar with it yet...

I hope you guys aren't disappointed with Stand up, I personally think it's an exellent CD, maybe the guitar parts are "boring", but he may just be using his band as a whole rather than have the roots of songs be the guitar.

speaking of wihch, can you help me with smooth rider? I can't get the chorus to sound right... the tab only has those two chords.

But I honestly feel that with this album dave was utilizing all aspects of his band where as on some of his more appreciated guitar parts (Jimi Thing for example), the guitar is the root of the song, and without which would be pointless. Not saying that it wouldn't have been nice to have some more cool riffs to practice, but the songs nonetheless would sound exellent with some backup music.

these songs are way too boring. i learned hello again last summer, and i learned dream girl. and hunger for the great light i learned while watching him from the roseland show. but...that's it.

I'd like to hear some of these songs played solo acoustically or with Tim... of course. It seems that songs (Dave in particular) have a way of transforming themselves when played without the full band.

Don't get me wrong... I love the band and it's because of the smooth blend of instruments that I find DMB more appealing than most bands. I guess all I'm saying is I'd like to hear some of the songs stripped down to nothing but acoustic guitar.

Unfortunately, I don't have near the guitar talent as some of you so it's hard for me to do some of the songs justice when it's just me and my guitar in the comforts of my own home. As a result, it's difficult to judge how these songs might sound stripped of all the extras... these songs might not lend themselves well to a solo performance. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I've been tooling with YMDT. Other than that I haven't been so compelled to try anything else on SU.

also the root stays the same, so these songs wont change much, if anything a jam will be added for tim to solo over, but solo dave theyll be boring as fuck
