Warehouse Muting

Unread post by sniperoakes » Thu Mar 17, 2005 11:06 pm

Hey - Quick Warehouse Question

On the 7 9 10 part, how are you suppose to mute the E string. I have the smallest hands in the world and can't get my thumb around to mute it, I was wondering if that's how you do it, or if you just avoid the string altogether with up strokes. Any help would be apprecaited. Thanks.

the low E or the high E string?
For us living any other ways was nuts. with all the goodie-goodies working shitty jobs for bum pay checks, took the subway work and worried about their bills were dead. they were suckers, they had no balls. if we wanted something we just took it, and if anybody complained twice they got hit so hard believe me they never complained again

Low E - the one by the A; unless I fucked that up and it's the high E that's next to the A. Anyways, the one closest to my cranium while I play.

thats a good question, i guess you just practice slowly not hitting it

but i have another question, how do you mute the 7 on the 7 9 10 part, when you do the 9, my 7 always rings and when i do my 10, that stupid 7 always rings, and i know you are stupposed to mute it when you do 9 and 10, but how
and all the little ants are marching..

try and mute it with the side of your ring finger. I believe that is the one that hits the 10.

mute it with the same finger you use on the 7. Index finger.

EDIT: nevermind that. thought you were talking about the 7-9-11 part.

i'd say use your middle finger. while using your middle for the 9, mute the G string below with the same finger.

change you angle of attack. Its like playing a C chord, you dont worry about muting the Low E because you dont hit it. Another thing you can do is lightly touch the low E with your ring finger, that way it mutes it

Dave wraps his Thumb around the top and mutes the bass E string. Unfortunately, not all of us have big enough hands to do that. I mute with my index finger, which means you have be deadly accurate when playing the G or 10 to not get the E string. I recommend practicin slow to get down accuracy first then work on getting the same speed. I know people hate to hear this, but it just takes time.

Does anyone have a good video or picture of Dave playing it? I always mute it however seems fast enough, I never really noticed how I did it. I do it with a mix of upstrokes and palm muting at the right time.

I just never hit it. You just have to learn how to strum more percisely. A way to do achive that is losing the pick. You gain so much more control when you strum when you lose the pick.

If you really want to mute it, letting your fingers that are fretting just gracefuly touch the adjacent string.
