So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I think you're talking about this:

Code: Select all

e-----------|-------------|
b-----------|-------------|
g--10-9-7-5-|-9-10-12-5-5-|
d--x--x-x-x-|-x-x--x--x-x-|
a--8--7-5-3-|-7-8--10-3-3-|
e-----------|-------------|

Is there any strumming to that, or just hit each chord once?

I play it like that as well, and also, the other instrumental part... I don't know how to describe it really but I play it like this.

Code: Select all

E------------------------------------------------------
B------------------------------------------------------
G---9--10--12--9--|--9--10--12/14--12--|--9--10--12--9-
D---x--x---x---x--|--x--x---x--x---x---|--x--x---x---x-
A---7--8---10--7--|--7--8---10/12--10--|--7--8---10--7-
E------------------------------------------------------
Last chord can be changed to a 5x7. Hit each one once. The last chord in each measure can be strummed if you need more fill. I play this during Roi's jam starting at 5:31 of Red Rocks and whenever played by Boyd/Roi.

After that riff...

Code: Select all

E-----------------------------
B-----------------------------
G--10--10--9--7--5------------
D--x---x---x--x--x---or---10--
A--8---8---7--5--3--------x---
E-------------------------8---
First four chords played x3 at the end of the song. End song on the 3x5 (or 8x10)

And also, I'd be interested if anyone could figure what Roi's doing at some parts. He's playing a similar scale but not on the same notes. And I can't figure out how high to go. If someone wants to try it out, listen to 5:22-5:25 on Red Rocks.
