I was in my shower the other night and I was......

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

but then you step back and think....they're on a dave matthews band TAB site, so apparently they were just like so many of us at one point.
I don't think I've ever downplayed Daves talent as a rhythm player.
There certainly was a point when I thought Dave was God but I moved on from that. He's a wonderful singer/songwriter and I will always enjoy his music.
Most people are here because guitar is fun and it's a great hobby. Can I help it if I take the instrument more seriously than that? Not everyone is going to enjoy or recognize guitar music like Don Ross, Pierre Bensusan, or Michael Hedges but I do and if that makes me come across as pompous or insulting to Dave I'm sorry but that's not the case.
In response to Jason's "technically correct" comment I invite him to listen to any of the above artists and tell me they don't have as much artistic merit as Dave.
Respect and admiration is one thing but idolization is rediculous imo.

mike...don't take what i said the wrong way. its all about growing. EVERYONE does the same thing. i like to think of dave as the springboard to bigger and greater things. its just that so many of you guys give off the impression that dave sucks, and you regret listening to his music. then you realize that that is not the case at all...

Dave is just the man.... I've only seen a couple videos of Michael Hedges and I can't even begin to think of how long it would take to learn his stuff. BUt just listen to songs like:

So Much To Say
Dancing Nancies
Don't Drink the Water
Bartender

and so many more......Dave's doing what he was put on this earth to do, and he's so damn good at it

No worries Mikey. I am after all on a DMB message board and the last thing I want to do is give off the impression that Dave sucks. :)

loving wings is great, and it's a lot harder to play on the guitar than people think, you have to pick pretty fast

Stay or Leave and Seek Up remain my favorites both lyrically and musically.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away
