Lie In Our Graves Solo Guitar

I got an open mic night coming up and would love to play "Lie In Our Graves" but its just me, with no one to solo during the jams. I think it the first little jam sounds fine solo when dave mostly just plays the A minor and B minor chords. But the second longer jam, where it slows down I think is just too slow and kinda kills the momentum of the song. I'm not a good enough guitarist to pull off some sort of improv solo thing so what do u suggest for the second jam? Cut it out and just go straight to "and i can't believe..." ? Shorten it? I know Dave hasnt played the song completely solo since '93 so what your advice?

well, back in the day people only got like 3 minute LIOG because there was no jam, but doing that will disapoint many people used to a longer one... i know gumbo has a nice thing he does with it to sound better solo that i think teases another song somewhere in there... wait for him to find this.

Hooray. Okay.. the jam sounds REALLY full if you do this with some mutes. (And also pull the strings kinda like finger pick and hit up your guitar like a slappity slapp.. its the hammerons that keep this interesting, and they make up the rythym improvvy part of it. do them how you like.)

Thats the best i think. Its EXACTLY like the regular jam, but open chords. Do some davey moany scatty in that and your gold.

yup. i have heard mr. ranting play many stadium sized gigs doing this and i thought it was great. his idea of a segue is excellent, however i must nag you to use my open chords. there just plain pretty.

I also like to use the little chords that are on the alt jam tab on the main site. But I pick them timmy style.

when playing it solo, which is well what I always do anyways, I throw in some notes on the b string, when you speed up the rhythm it sounds nice, and when you slow down in the end you can do some picking (sorry that this doesnt line up right)

no problem. use mine and rantings.. swap it up, each are good for certain things.. rantings are good for strumming, my open ones are good for picking and pretty and slow parts, and my other ones (in the tab) are good for hammers and pulloffs!
