what's wrong with playing crash? it's one of those tunes that everybody knows and most people love. it's a way to get your audience into your show and connected to you. just because he's playing crash doesn't mean he's trying to get women. unless you're being sarcastic then this post is null and void. but i think something as recognizable as crash is good for an audience that may not be all that DMB savy.

yea if you can sing well crash is always a great tune (def one of those songs that you gotta at least be able to stay in key for hehe, but im sure thats not a prob for u, i just cant hit some of the high notes as cleanly as dave does it all the time). And it have to be a bunch of immature dickheads who dont have much taste for good music (which would have no business being at an open mic anyway) to tune out to or give u shit for playing crash, its by no means a bad song at all. But i can see where davy28 was going with his remark, ive been to plenty of parties where someone tries to pull off crash for the ladies and blows it big time haha, just know ur shit and u'll be fine no matter what you play, good luck!

definitely agreed...i'm sorry if it came off as me coming down on you, that was not my intention. i too know guys who think just because they can play crash that they are studly or whatever. whenever people ask if I can play some dave for them I usually play something like LIOG or ANTS...something that's recognizable to them, but isn't just what you hear on the radio. usually they ask for crash though, that's when it's brought out .

yea, crash isnt usually a song i would play unless asked just cuz i think dave has some great songs that people arent really exposed to and its always cool to hear something fresh. and btw Davy28, that "immature dickheads with no taste for good music" wasnt directed at you at all, didnt want any miscommunication hehe, peace...

I don't know if you notice this, but I am usually too lazy to put smilies in with my posts most of the time; I only do it when my intention is to be sarcastic.

I will fully admit that I am one of those guys who went through a period where Dave was all I would want to play, and although I would boast of my Dave talents and try to play things like SMTS and The Stone to try and impress them, they would not give a shit and demand that I play crash. I hated that more than anything, because to me and I'm sure hundreds of other dave players it is not a song that is very dynamic in terms of guitar abilities and it burns the hell out of your hands. So I would often turn my nose up at that song.

Crash is probably the most frat boyish of all the dave songs, and in college I have made many sacrafices to maintain my individuality and avoid not losing my head in frats like so many of my friends, in terms of parties and getting busted with booze and whatnot. The frat kind of mentality is not my bag.

And like t6s said, it urks the shit out of me when I see guys who think they can play the song as well as me trying to play it, then girls swarm around them and think that he is good.

I still play it from time to time, but I have moved on to other music, like zeppelin, peter gabriel, and the rolling stones.

These days my girl-snagger dave song is WAYG. Its pretty, well written and not cheesy, it doesn't cook my hands, and is probably the second most popular song among less than obsessed dave fans. That would be my recommendation if you want a good dave song to add to a set.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

ya, im not a big fan of the frat scenes either. though i think if someone sang crash at most of the big frat parties at my school, it would not get a warm welcoming and definantly wouldnt be requested haha. I dont find the lyrics to crash cheesy at all, like if it wasnt as played as it was on the radio n mtv n such i think people would see how well written it is. The whole ball n chain line always reminds me of how good a lyracist (if thats a word hehe) dave is. How he makes a song about a topic like that sound so sweet is a work of art IMO, but alas the radio has taken its toll in taking away from the flavor n all. I gotta admit though, if a guy has the balls to sing n jam infront of a party full of people i think he does kinda deserve their attention, it takes a lot to play infront of a ton of peers in a high pressure situation like that... less they suck balls, then i tune out hehe
