Am I holding the pick wrong!?
I hold the pick with my Thumb, index and middle fingers...It feels natural and comfortable and I've played like it for over a year. Now my buddies are telling me that I'm holding it all wrong. Is there really a "right" way to hold a pick? I don't have to start a new strumming habit, do I?

Im a lefty and play righty too. Its easier that way all left handed players should learn that way.justinandimcool wrote:I'm a lefty and I play a righty guitar...and that feels natural as well...I think I'm a retard.
But the problem with holding the pick that way is when you go to pick fast you have to move your whole arm fast and not just your wrist so it slows you down. Plus its harder to hold on to.
But whatever floats your boat.

There's not really a wrong way to hold the pick. But depending on how you hold it the pick can really effect how fast you can pick . What's natural for you is what's best for you. Though sometimes holding the pick a little different can change how long it takes to get your picking speed up to par. I still can't pick very fast because I think I kind of hold the pick funky, but I haven't been playing very long.

Eddie Van Halen holds his pick with his thumb and middle finger, and I'd be willing to bet if you tried to "correct" Eddie's pick holding style he'd happily flash you that middle finger. LOL!
Do what feels good for you man!
