Anyway... just kidding.
eh not really just for bass. i use mostly finger picking except on crazy tim songs, and songs with weird sycopated rythmes that sound too weird without a pick, rant does all finger picking, and macht does like 80% finger picking.GSRLessard14 wrote:okay children, gather round. what i meant was that i thought it was weird to say tone is in your fingers if your a guitar player because you normally use a pick, so its more your attack/technique/rythm that generates the tone. if you're finger picking, then the tone would come from your fingers.Tranman66 wrote:how can your fingers and picks make different tone?MWR wrote:GSRLessard14 wrote:especially if they're holding a pick. or you're a bass player.Locarius wrote:Tone is in your fingers.
I'm confuzzled
confused too...
"Tone is in your fingers" is much more applicable to bass players.
It's strange that the "Dave" sound is usually associated with Martins since he plays so much else (including Taylors, which have a completely different sound).2StepGranny wrote:If you want, check out the main page and see what guitars Dave has played in the past. I believe the Martin HD-28V is a little more expensive than that, but it's what Dave played before he got his signature guitar from Martin. But more than anything, go to a guitar store and mess around with all kinds of guitars, and try to find a sound that you like. So it all depends on what you are looking for. But good luck

This is probably because the Taylors have a brighter sound which will effectively "cut" through the band's "thick" sound better. I believe this is the same reason he used to use the Chet. It's strange that the "Dave" sound is usually associated with Martins since he plays so much else (including Taylors, which have a completely different sound).
It could be because he seems to favor Martin when playing solo and Taylor with full band, but I can think of enough exceptions that it doesn't seem true
