D&t Grey street question

Unread post by Mich1584 » Sun Jul 20, 2003 2:14 pm

ok ive read a lot of posts about how people make grey street sound better while playing solo on a 6 string, but im just wondering how dave plays it when he plays it with tim b/c to me it sounds like hes playing it the same way he does on the 12 string, i also dont hear the muting in the verse part of the song when he plays it on the 6 string

dave always plays it the same way on a 6 as he does on a 12. there is muting in there most of the time, to keep the rythm..

i believe you can lower the high e string to a d. dave doesn't do this but it does make the chords sound a little fuller.

(i'm sure this is what it was...i can't remember if this is exact or not but it does involve detuning a string)

At the same time it gives it that Dashboard Confessional sound...which i hate. If you're fast enough, you can play the full chords...but its kinda hard to change that fast and still make it sound good...though its possible. I think it sounds best muting and playing the two finger chord and let the D ring in the middle. Its not as full, but i think it sounds best.

This is how I like to play it. Although it really helps if you have some Elixirs on, just a warning.

Code: Select all

Verse
E:----------------------------------
B:----------------------------------
G:-7----4---6---2----4---6---2---4--
D:-0---(0)-(0)--3---(0)-(0)--3--(0)-
A:-x----5---7---x----5---7---x---5--
E:-7----3---5---2----3---5---2---3--

usually those mean that you can play that note if you want to, but it's not required.
