how does timmy do it?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

does anyone know how tim uses his slide over the sound hole and still gets a clean tone out if it like in the ants marching solo twords the end of the song in storytellers? he goes right off the neck of the guitar over the soundhole and it still sounds good....anybody know how he does this...what effects hes using?

a slide doesn't use depressed frets, it using the note above the fretboard(in this case, over the soundhole)

yeah, trying to play it like he does with his crazy tremelo picking is hard. but i use slides over the sound hole all the time, it should sound the same, cuz you're not pressing down, just placing it over the strings (touching of course).

the only difference is that there are no frets to guide you as to where you are and what notes youre playing, gotta go by feel and ear

Slides can be very tricky to learn at first. It helps if you wiggle the slide for vibrato at all notes so even if you don't nail a note perfectly and make it sharp or flat, you can still recover quickly.
