i like quick reply better though....it's great, you weren't kidding!!

but back to topic...basically to sum up: Ants, Stay, rhyme and reason, and even Rapunzel have similar muting methods...

live at luther track 7 baby!! listen to that and play to that over and over and you'll get the muted strums and rhythm that D&T use...

that's what i did and it really speeds up the learning curve

Can you explain in words how the muting is done for this song? It sounds simple to say just mute with the left hand but that doesn't help me. It looks like you have to cover the D string as well as the G, B, and E, and brush across the strings un-fretted three times? I can do this if I barre the strings but Dave seems to keep the same chord formation. I guess it's hard to explain.

Thanks

ok well...

this is how it is when Dave starts out...

D, 1 downstroke mute(placing all 4 of your fingers over at least the majority of the strings), then slide slide....

G, 3 strokes...Up, Down, Up(placing all 4 of your fingers over at least the majority of the strings).....should make an "achicka" sound.

You really have to think of the "achicka" mute sound to get Dave's style...
