*sighs* i know what you mean, but sometimes i like to change his songs to suit me. in fact, i don't "water them down" or make them easier, i actually add extra stuff that makes it sound fuller (like taking power chords and making them the correct major or minor chord).
i really don't think that it matters whether or not dave played a d barre chord at a concert in 1995, or if he played it open on the cd recording. little nitpicking like this is actually detrimental to advancement as a guitarist.
if a guitarist can't look at a song someone else wrote and say "hey maybe if i played it like this" or "maybe it would be easier to use this chord inversion instead of this one", then this guitarist is doomed to be shackled by the idea that a certain song can only be played one way. the worst thing that can happen when you look for a different way is that you come to a dead end and have to find another. yes, being able to play the song like dave is cool, but wouldn't it be much more satisfying to learn it the original way and then find another on your own? if i didn't do this, i would have lost interest in guitar a long time ago...

dude...I'm totally with you fatjack...but 99.9% of the time when someone says they are gonna do it different than Dave or play it with their "own style" they mean they are gonna play chords or have bad rhythm...if someone posted a cover that I thought sounded better than Dave's way, or just as good, I would definitely admit to it, but usually people around here try to play it how Dave does simply because thats the way it sounds best.
for example, you gotta give howie day props for his 41 cover.

thanks guys, but i might wait to post a song of my own. and i want to try recording my own voice, but that needs A LOT of work. my voice is severely undertrained/underused. luckily, I can hear when im off key (unlike a lot of people), its just a matter of training my voice to get there

We've all heard this point a million and one times.......ok a million and two now. I love to improvise on dave's songs (just listen to my covers, except stay or leave) as much as anyone but I was just curious as to what dave was playin cause I saw it on the storytellers video and it wasn't on the tab....
Simple as that....just curious
FIRE!!
Hell yeah that sounds like a good idea!
Damn it's a bitch to sing.......damn..

Aight later all
