Impress with a DMB song

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I would have to say just give him 50 minutes and the entire BTCS CD....but since that is not an option.....I would have to say you have 5 choices

Dancing Nancies
Warehouse
Album version of Pig
Dreaming Tree
Stone(live or in studio)

My personal opinion would have to be the Album Version of Pig. In my opinion, it is FAR AND BEYOND the best song they have done IN STUDIO. The reason I say that is because it's so perfect.....it sounds awesome live.....but on BTCS, man....NOTHING is off on that song. If you sit down and just listen to everythign in the background...phase Dave's voice out and listen to the little nuances that Boyd, Carter, Stefan, and Leroi throw into that song....it's amazing. Along w/ that echo-y type effect that is on Dave's voice.....everything meshes PERFECTLY

i politely disagree. both are great songs, but IMO, i don't think that they really show off what the band can do. Just an exampe for each song (among other things): you can hardly hear dave's guitar on pig (and it doesn't do Carter much justice), and spoon is hardly indicitive of what dave can do with his voice. I realize that you can pick apart any dave song and say that another is better, but as an intro, i wouldn't pick those two.

i stongly agree with the stone or crush an you never know. if he's a jazz buff, then you might want to go with crush.

I suggested Pig because it shows off a lot of the talents of the band....but I guess your right about Dave's guitar. One of the driving forces of DMB, and partly why they are so popular, is Dave's guitar playing. I would have to go along w/ Stone live.....although have him listen to album-Pig :)

I would vouch for All Along The Watchtower, I love how it just constantly builds.

eh, i think that you would want to stick to a DMB original vs. a cover.

I'd say the jam in the middle of Jimi Thing from "Central Park" is a good example. I really dig that jam (and yes, I don't know what it's called :) )

Studio pig is a fucking perfect recording. Lillywhite is a god in bringing out all the instruments to their potential. if you can't hear the guitar i fear for your hearing.

Sorry for going off topic again :( , but I just wanted to say what I said about MWR's grammer was just a joke. I know it's a messege board, and I screw around with typing, and have typos all over the place.

I am just saying we shouldn't take everything like this too seriously :), and I am sorry if I offended you, MWR, I was just joking.

Now, back to the subject. For full band that does showcase the full band, Pig really is good, but the guitar work of Dave isn't showcased as much as in Warehouse. My list I made, though, was focused on just Dave. Also, I get why People think R&R isn't as repetative as the Stone is, because the Stone is much quicker and much more looping, while the main riff for R&R is takes longer, and has a break in it, giving it a fuller feeling.

Now, I do think to showcase the stretching of Dave and the talents of the band, #41 is a good choice. Dave doesn't give off amazing guitar work or anything, but shows his main chords, and some hard stretches. It also shows his vocal range. It's also great to see bouncing different energy of solos, all around.

Oh wow, I'm really liking #41 thus far, very nice solo variation from everyone; it's between that and Pig right now I think. Should I only go for the studio version of #41, or perhaps try the Luther College one? Thanks!

that's a tough one. i think if you want to show how DMB can play musically, and show good rythm and good instrument collaboration, i think Listener supported version, or studio is good. probobly listener

although the energy in the warehouse vol 2 version is awesome

i think for what you're looking for, go with Listener or studio

studio version of #41 is awesome.. dave does his thing, carter does some amazing rolls, and the rest of the band just grooves on in~~~~~
