They left out a bunch of the good ones. Tim Reynolds, Phil Keaggy, John Mayer...etc.

Sorry though guys as much as I love Dave he really shouldnt be on the top 100 best guitarist list. Maybe top 100 songwriters, or DMB in best bands. But not best guitarist. Dave is good at guitar but not as good as a lot of others.

Dave never gets his due credit... with over 125 songs under his belt, he's got some talent... sure most of them use the same chords but he can play well.

That list is just completely rediculous. Going through a quick look, I can say with certainty that David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, and Trey Anastasio should all be much higher on that list!

Dave should be like, top ten best songwriters list. If we want to get into that. Rolling stone is just a crock of shit.

i dont think its the most talented. nor the most unique. nor the most influential. they just said "top 100" and that way you cant officially say theyre wrong.

therefore, i cant argue with any of you because we dont really know what were talking about. but my "top 5 list" would be something like jimi, clapton, bb, duane, and jimmy

DAVE IS NOT A VERY GOOD GUITARIST
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD

he has a very original style, but the fact that a bunch of middle aged kids can learn just about all of his songs from an internet message board should tell you that. compare him to anyone who mainstreamed blues guitar like clapton or SRV and he is dirt. i love the guy but he's just not a very good guitar player.

and that list is complete lunacy anyhow. the fact that cobain is in the top 20 is ridicilious and SRV didnt even make top 5.

I take every gif I watch (which is A LOT) with a humongous grain of salt. But I don't let that grain of salt get into my eye and blind me to whatever truth can be found in what I'm watching. He is not any worse than any other poster here, and the people who claim he is just don't know what they're talking about. The demonization has gotten ridiculously out of hand.

Rolling Stone has become one shit box magazine. Poor writing and their incessant coverage of popular music (which usually sucks) has led me to believe the heyday of RS has been over for nearly two decades.

This list is just so off it's terrible.

Jack White of the White Stripes? Are you kidding me? That's one of the most shockingly funny things I've read in a long while.

How, how, how, can Johnny Winter and Brian May be BELOW Jack White? That makes no sense, but of course, that's RS for you. A pop culture magazine to scared too write stories about music instead they write about what their adverstisers tell them to.

Rolling Stone, when they put this out, where simply scratching their own backs. They had pinned The White Stripes as some kind of musical saviors. And they vote Jack White #17. Hmmm. Kurt Cobain, also "revolutionary." No one at RS gives a shit about quality, it's all about publicity.

It's the "100 greatest guitarist's of all time". To me that simply means they find so-and-so to be real "great" or "nifty". Sure that doesn't do anything to RS's credibility but the fact is they obviously were very subjective with their dicisions.

It is complete and utter bullshit that Django isn't on there though.

Neither is re-inventing the wheel. I'd say for overall chops John Mayers, but for style and nuance Dave Matthews.

i understand what you're saying, but i don't think you have to play hard stuff to be a good guitarist. I think dave is a very good guitarist. not anywhere near the top 100 of all time, but i think he's done enough w/ movable and stretch chords to at least be considered very good.

i think timmy is awesome too, but i'm still not sure he should be in the top 100. i like timmy a lot, but i think he's too busy sometimes and it sounds bad. but i do agree that the list is bs.

First off, whoever said Dave is dirt compared to anybody should vacate this website. He is an exceptional guitarist....I don't care what anyone says. He often is modest and downplays his ability but I think thats just the type of guy he is...he's not arrogant. His inovation is un believable...and I really believe he is the reason the acoustic guitar is back in the mainstream.
