My recommendation is to just keep practicing to help your hands stretch some more.

use your ring finger to hit the bass note on the 5th fret. your middle finger should be hitting the 3rd fret on the A string, and your index finger on the 2th fret on the D string.
Code: Select all
E:--------------------------------
B:---------------8---3--3----3----
G:---5-----7-----4---x--0h4--x----
D:---2-----4-----5---4--x----0h4--
A:---3-----5---7-7---5--5----5----
E:-5-5---7-7----------------------

hey man! i am/was having the same problem with #41. i can't reach the 5th fret with my ring finger yet, but i posted a while back with the same question to make sure i had the correct fingering and i wasn't trying to do it completely wrong. but here is the reply i got....
while practicing a lot eventually allows you to stretch to fingering such as #41, there is a way to play it without a note. it's not perfect, and it's not correct, and definitely you should keep trying for the stretch, but try playing it like this for now:

like i said, it's not correct, but sounds fine to me. atleast until i can stretch like dave. give it a shot! good luck.

If your looking for an easier way to play the intro you could always do this:
E---3---3----3----3
B---3---3----3----3
G---0---2----0----2
D---2---0--2-2-0-0
A-0-0-2-2----------
E--------------------
E---3---3----3----3
B---3---3----3----3
G---0---2----0----2
D---2---0--2-2-0-0
A-0-0-2-2----------
E--------------------
