#41 Question

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

#41 Question

Unread post by serialwired » Mon Sep 20, 2004 10:47 am

I have been trying to learn the fingering for #41 for some time now, and for some reason, I think I am doing it wrong. Here is what I assume the fingering is like:

E:------------
B:-----------
G:---5------7 <-- 4th
D:---2------4 <-- 1st
A:---3------5 <-- 2nd
E:-5-5---7-7 <-- 3rd
Maybe it's just because it's hard for me to make the stretch, but I just want confirmation that this is the correct fingering. One day, I'll be able to play it. :-)

Thanks in advance!

The Germans discovered it in 1904, and they called it "San Diego", which in German means "whale's vagina". Ron Burgundy

Cool, much appreciated. The first time I saw that stretch, I almost crapped myself, but then again, I was just learning. I am still learning, but can stretch my fingers quite a bit further than I used to. I can reach the 5 with my 3rd finger, but when I do, I mute the 3 OR my fingers slide down a fret. I keep trying everyday, eventually I'll hit it.

Thanks for the help.

Very true. But this song is also a double edged sword.

DO NOT attempt to sing this song for the ladies unless you are sure you can hit those high notes before the second verse, wether it be true or falseto.

If you can't, they will turn to butter right up until your voice cracks 2 octaves below what dave sings, at which point they will laugh at you and find another guitarist.

this is true, i totally agree. i am not much of a singer, so when i sing #41, it's definitely by myself in my car. i just have to learn to sing those notes differently.

thanks for the welcome. glad to be here :-)

i have been working lately on singing lover lay down and new coats and new hats (matt nathanson). very sweet songs. i have also been attempting to get granny down, which seems to be coming along quite well.

everyone told me dmb was too hard to start with, but i have come pretty far since starting. i feel if you love the music, it comes naturally.

i guess while i have some attention for right now, i am also curious about the diggin' a ditch tab. is there a fuller version of the tab out there? one that includes the "walk" dave does after the initial tab on here?
ADDITION: you know what, i just found it. i don't remember that being there before... my bad.

its not that you are or I am getting lazy

First, I have a crappy guitar on the strings are so damn high off the fret board that it would kill my hands

Second, while you are playing the same the way I do, you can learn the song and become comfortable with it while every so often you try to make that stretch

I have tried for months, I just can't get that stretch, so I have to make do with what I have
