So Damn Lucky Verse

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

So Damn Lucky Verse

Unread post by nate » Wed Sep 15, 2004 11:32 am

Ok in the verse part with the first set of hammer ons on the 11th fret A and G strings, I'm having a hell of a time getting my pinky to fit onto the fret while keeping my index finger barred on the A,D,G string on the ninth fret. Does anyone else have this problem? Sometimes i can get it most times not. any help would be key.

Think most of us has this problem.

Practice practice practice...

One tip though, try changing where you position your thumb, it might work.

coyoteguy how do u play it? I just watched the video of dave playing it one VH1 when trey and him went to africa. I figure that my hands can't be fatter or bigger than dave's so if he can do this i should be able to too. If that reasoning makes any sense hahaha. At least i know i'm not the only one struggling with this shizzel.

when playing the verse think jimi thing. you've got to up on your hammer-ons and use a lot of quick strums. keep watching dave play it :D

a little way to cheat, it doesnt sound as good but just put 3 fingers on each of the strings ur sposed to, instead of barring it, then just slide em instead of hammering on

I dont use my pinky on the first set or hammer ons. I barre with my index and hammer on with my second and third fingers. I find it easier that way.

The pinky is the least used finger when playing guitar. To get it to do the hammers like that, you really have to work it out. You need to just excersize it, keep doing it, do songs that use the pinky, and just practice those. That's what I had to do. You can also switch your ring finger on a chord or a riff with your pinky, to give it more of a work out.

Try rotating your wrist forward a little so your fingers are coming down almost from over the fretboard and turn your hand so your fingers are pointing more towards the right (assuming you're playing a right-handed guitar). I hope that made enough sense. :/
