I think this song is awesome, and the chorus with the chords is coming along alright
Code: Select all
E:---------------------------------------
B:-2-2--3-3-------5---------3-2----------
G:-2-2--4-x----4--4----4-4--x-x----7--7--
D:-2-2--2-4----2--2----5-5--2-2----7--7--
A:-------------x--x----x-x--x-x----x--x--
E:-----------4-4--4----3-3--3-3--7-7--5--
but the part where the base note is 3 what is that chord form?
for the 3x2x3 to 3x2x2 part I can think of no finger formation that works!

This is how I play it:
Code: Select all
E:------
B:------
G:--4--->2
D:--5--->3
A:--x---
E:--3--->1
E:--------
B:--3--2-->3 & 2nd finger for 2nd fret
G:--x-----
D:--2--2-->1
A:--x--x--
E:--------
The numbers after the ">" are for which fingers to use, 1=index and so on...
I normally play it without the bass note and it sounds fine or I just use my thumb for the low E because otherwise that chord is tricky.

Or you can play it:
Code: Select all
E:---------
B:--3--2-->4 or 2 on 2nd fret
G:--x--x--
D:--2--2-->1
A:--x--x--
E:--3--3-->3
But thats hard so I use my thumb on the bass string and play it the way I stated above. Anyways, does that help at all?

the thumb does fit in nicely, awesome.
first song I ever learned (well plan on learning well) that I use the thumb and it is easier!

Yeah, the thumb really helps, I started getting into JM a lot and learned how to use my thumb and it helps a lot. Like in WWBOM/PNP, the part where he plays:
Code: Select all
E:-----
B:--3--
G:--0--
D:--4--
A:--5--
E:--3--
That is so much harder the way he plays it. I just use my thumb and make a C chord, much easier.

but i must say a barred C shape chord (like 254232) sounds awesome and is fun to play. it goes right along in the progression of bars after the E shape and the A shape. Also the D shape bar chords (like we see in Crash, xx2454) and even G shapes (xx2225 or xx2255 or 5x2225) can add a lot to your voicings. once you can do any of those bars you'd be surprised how you can funk up an old acoustic tune (and how easy it is to accompany someone and look like your really good).

i find that its hard to mute the high e string when i use my thumb in PNP, but i find myself doing it both ways, depends on what i feel like i guess
for lover lasy down i do i the way kanter does it... its hard and i still dont have it clean all the time... i just practice the 3x54xx 3x2x3x 3x2x2x progression until i cant stand it any more, after doing it enough times i find that i have the muscle memory to do it ok.... until i try it the next day lol

I dont even worry about muting the high e in PNP, you cant even hear it if you dont mute it. But whatever works for you.

a good song for a bar C chord is Santeria
Code: Select all
E:-----4---4--4--7
B:-----5---4--5--7
G:-----4---5--6--8
D:-----6---6--6--9
A:-----7------4---
E:-----x------x---
that is the basic chotd progression, for the C shape it is way easier to reach it if you just bar the first 3 strings and just mute the low E, it is ska type anyway so all upstrokes![/quote]
