What if his skills actually dropped a bit????

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I don't mean to say Dave's guitar playing is bad, but listening to some older recording his skills seem to be a bit higher than they are now. However I think that may be that his guitar parts are just a little more evident in older recordings. He seems to throw in much more variation in the younger days of the band.

I dunno, just something i thought of while listening to 3/23/93

He's just alot more polished now. If you listen to older stuff it sounds really raw, and i mean raw to a point no one can achieve. In my opinion the man was touched by a higher power. In all reality dave's method is the most incorrect method on the planet. It's one of those things that only happen every so often, like an earth quake or a tsunami. Think about it like this if dave's guitar method wasn't ground breaking don't you think Jimmy Paige or Hendrix would've ripped out some of those dave type licks. Just my opinion no big deal, just one new age hippie talking. I realize your new to the site and i hope for the moderators sake that you enjoy it as much as all the rest of us.

I think it's because of the way the sounds meshed. Now that they've got it all rounded out and everything, they sounds mesh together so well it's like one big sound instead of 5 (or 6 with keys) different ones.

Haha, yeah I don't think I worded that how I wanted to. It's not that he's gotten worse, just his style has somewhat changed I guess.

Sorry if I offended anyone.

Oh nah, man, you didn't offend anyone. I don't think there was anything wrong with your post at all.

What the previous poster was referring to was some, uh, discontent on the boards recently. ;)

wrist problems?

Unread post by lordmelt » Mon Dec 16, 2002 10:24 pm

anyone think it has something to do with his wrist problems, like it has been bugging him more as the years drag on?

Yes....I do....100%. Take a look at his songs, using more standard chords...power chords. This may be a result of workign w/ Ballard but the newer stuff def has a different sound/style to it. He also seems to like to finger pick a lot more now....which is kinda cool. Take a look at every song from BTCS and on. Has he ever NOT used a pick??? Please enlighten me if he doesn't use one.....I think Christmas song and PFWYG are the only ones and those aren't really finger picked, they are just played w/o a pick....I don't know, just my opinion....peace

yeah especially listen to the new ones like loving wings. i mean that's pure picking... with little movement around the neck. Also grave digger, a pretty basic song.. but well thought out.
