I'm currently giving the new D'addario EXP 80/20 Bronze (EXP11) a trial run...mostly because the Guitar Center near my apartment was out of the EXP16. I have to say I'm really happy I decided to give them a chance! I've had them on my guitar for about 2 weeks now and they really have settled in nicely. I've been playing them fairly intensely indoor and outdoor and so far they have retained VERY little dirt. The sound has all the warmth of the standard D'add EXP strings but with a little but more brightness on the higher strings. I would recommend giving them a shot at least once - I'm glad I did.

I tossed some D'addario EXP 17s (the mediums) on. I don't think I'll ever go back. I love them. The difference b/t lights and mediums is night and day. My guitar sounds so much better and is louder.
On a side note, I picked up my neighbor's guitar that has lights on them and it feels odd now after using the heavier guage.

I tried the Martin SP Extra Lights and Lights and I can't say that I was too impressed with them. They sounded half decent when I slapped them on, but they had no life what so ever. I was at the guitar shop talking about my new MARTIN D-35 (hell fuckin yeah) and the guy there recommended the elixer nanoweb mediums. I'm currently head over heels and I will never go back. I bought another set or two and put one on my Yamaha too and they still sound great. You should hear that Martin. It's a musical orgasm.

If at first you don't succeed, try again. Then give up. There's no use being a damn fool about it.

Dave's strings question
Dave actually plays D'Addario EXP15's, which are extra lights. EXP15's are decent strings, and I do use them when I play live, but for recording or home playing or whatever, Elixir Medium or Light gauge are definately the way to go. They seem to give more bass and a stronger and overall well-balanced sound. I personally think that the EXP15's lack the well-balanced sound. They seem to give plenty of treble, but lack a deeper bass sound.
