All Along the Watchtower

Unread post by Davefan41 » Wed Apr 16, 2003 9:57 pm

Ok, I know this song is really easy to play, but what makes it so darn satisfying? I think I could play that progression all day Am-G-F, I am just looking for some opinions, and to see if I am the only one who feels that way...peace :o

ohh...do you all play it open chords or barred? I played it barred forever then I switched because the chord switching is so much fun on the open.

Personally, the muting is what makes the song for me.
And the fact that this is one of the few songs I can scream and make sound so beautiful.

EDIT: I use open chords.

me too (open). and yes, you can just sit and watch tv and do that progression foreva. i like to try different strummin w/ this tune to mix it up cuz its such an open (not chord-wise) song that you can just go w/ whatever and its gonna be great. one of my absolute favs.

its funny cuz those chords are the exact chords of the first song i ever learned how to play.

but it was a church song?

hmmmm

you can strum it pick it or whatever and it still sounds great!

its played the best when you have a really good drummer tho.

yeah it is a barre chord...but if you play the F any other way, it doesnt have the balls that the song needs. Dave plays Am open, G open, F barred, then back to G open.

i use to play Am G F and then G and the back to the progression. now i play Am G F and then C and slide up 2 more frets. sounds more along the lines of what dave plays. does anyone else do this? Am G F G also sounds good. i just switch back and forth depending on the mood. and yes that song is one of the best to sing and play cause you can go all out and scream and still sound good. :D

Yeah, the C sounds a lot better in my opinion. The F-G gets a little boring, plus the C slide is more fun.
