Newbie on board, sorta....

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Fingers

Unread post by tommymal » Fri Jul 23, 2004 9:40 am

What do you guys and girls think about the effect of one's finger sizes and playing the guitar. I see that dude Pat's videos and the kid's pinky is friggin longer then my middle finger and I got a little scared that I would never be able to get to level on the guitar that I would like simply because of the stumpy little italian fingers that I inherited from dear old dad. Currently I can play Satellite and #34 decent after working on those tunes for about 2 weeks. I can really only practice on those stretches for about 30 minutes before my hands get a little tired but I think that is normal for any beginner. Any thoughts?

Pat has freak-of-nature-bearpaws :)

I can't imagine that you won't be able to play but I'm sure that long fingers makes a huge difference.

Look at Clapton's mitts ... He's got fingers like #2 pencils ;)

Its like any skill....some people are just naturally better suited for guitar, but you can still become really good if you put the time and energy in. I know many great stubby fingered guitarists

I take every gif I watch (which is A LOT) with a humongous grain of salt. But I don't let that grain of salt get into my eye and blind me to whatever truth can be found in what I'm watching. He is not any worse than any other poster here, and the people who claim he is just don't know what they're talking about. The demonization has gotten ridiculously out of hand.
