So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Hey all - first, I really like the x5778x thing in sticky's #41 - add that to the previous one posted, and it sounds sweet - ALSO, what words to you change chords on in the chorus - I'm having a wee bit of trouble getting that down..... thanks!

look at my post earlier in this same thread...

1st chorus

Code: Select all

I will go.....in this..................way and find my own way
G.............F#m......................C.........C............

out..I won't......tell you......what to be but I'm coming too much more
G.................F#m...........C.....................C.............................
Second Chorus

Code: Select all

I wouldnt.........pass this.........by and I wouldn't take more than I
G.................F#m...............C...........C....................

Need, what sort of.........man goes.......by, I will bring you water
G..........................F#m............C..........C................

Why wont you ever be...glad melts into...wonder i came in praying for
G......................F#m...............C..........C.................

You, Why wont you..run into the rain and..play and let tears splash all over you?
G..................F#m....................C.............C....
Maybe that can help MORE...remember that the C chord is played twice as long as the other two chords...maybe if you listen to L@LC you can hear it much better...that's how I basically learned

I think that the D&T version of this song is just the sexiest thing ever...that intro is unbelievably cool and it takes forever to figure out how he plays it...and then the chorus riff is awesome too...I play it for people who are new to the d&t 41 and they just go crazy cause it is soo cool...also I think that the verse riff like he plays it works great, you don't have to use the intro chords to make it sound fuller, I just let the bass notes ring, and I strike each one twice before switching, it is what I hear on d&t, and I haven't heard anyone mention it before, but I think it is kick a**, and if it is just common knowledge to everyone then just tell me, also for all the beginners out there, STICK WITH IT!!! there is nothing better after a hard day to come home and just let loose on the guitar without having to really struggle with what you are playing...ok sorry I wrote so much, peace :o

Um, Billy, it's not an F#m in the chorus, it's a D/F# with either the 2nd or the 4th added as you like...

I agree completely with Johnny B Good on this one about playing the intro chords as the verse chords. That's what I do, and as he says, I change up the strumming pattern. It fills it out BEAUTIFULLY. Just the fact that when he listened to L@LC he heard those changes where D&T play together show just how much those chords can fill out the sound.

Wait, I just realized that I do one thing different: when I play the verses I do this chord for an Am:

--0--
--0--
--5--
--5--
--0--
--x--

Word ticohans

haha...glad to hear someone else does this as well. I'll have to get an audio of the way I play it sometime soon... like we both said, if you switch up the strumming to the intro chords to match daves strumming on the verse - the intro chords fill out amazingly well. Just from playing this and getting so used to it, it's so hard to go back to that simple 3 string riff dave plays. Still just as appealing though 8)
My "gitter" was my best investment
