You can special order it for an extra $1,000 from what I hear.

I'd be willing to bet Tim Reynolds would have enough cash to special order his butt crack as inlay if he wanted. :P 8)

the cindy inlay was standard on the 914c from the mid-90's (maybe '95-'96ish?) until the year 2000. at the beginning of '01, the new 900 series inlay was launched.

the pre-2001 914c's also had a rosewood binding, rosewood headstock overlay, and gold tuners.

the 2001 and later 914's have an ivoroid binding, ebony headstock overlay, and ebanoid tuners -- and of course, the new inlay.

the cindy inlay is currently only available on a custom order basis (with exception to limited edition runs like the 900 series limiteds from late '03). the MSRP increase is $1200 for the inlay so that translates into an upcharge of about $720 (provided your dealer is cool and gives you 40% off the MSRP).

dave's 914's are from a variety of years. he used to play an older one with the florentine cutaway -- due to the size of the rosette on that guitar, i'd estimate it was from around '96 or so (see the aint it funny vid from 04/2?/02 from canada).

the others are probably '99s or '00s. i believe he also has another one that's an '01 or later, but it doesn't see much stage use.

You guys know way to much about Taylors and Martins! Who honestly need to know this. I don't care what my guitar looks like or when the model was launced or anything. All I need to know is if it sounds good or not!

some people are guitar enthusiasts....

other people can spout off how many times #34 was played with words, and the corresponding dates....

to each their own.

people were asking about taylor 914's, so i shared what i know....i'll be sure to get your written consent before posting anything informative again.

and in case you were wondering -- 914's do sound good.

I didn't mean to sound like an ass, but I quite frankly don't care what a guitar looks like if it sounds good. Obviously the 914 sounds good cause Dave uses it! I've seen some damn ugly Martins that sound amazing! Sorry to offend you but I just find it odd to know that much about a brand of guitar!

i dont think anyone here would disagree with you -- sound and playability are paramount, looks are secondary. that said, a few bells and whistles are still kinda nice sometimes :)
