i love playing dave chords cuz when theres someone who has never ever seen them before and you bust them out like nothing, they are mega impressed. i have a friend who writes some pretty awesome stuff and plays all the time but when i played w/ him once, his eyes lit up seeing the strange shapes and stretches. i think playing all over the place (neck wise) really frees you up and allows you to really come up w/ crazy stuff. good times.

I know what you mean, I played a bunch of Dave songs at some party down at school and different people were passing the guitar around and they were all pretty good but when it got to me they were all mesmerized by the chords and by the fastness of some songs (warehouse, stone, etc.) Then I asked you guys wanna play some more shit and they were like well were no where near as good as you but I guess so. They reall werent that bad at all just didnt know Dave stuff.

Since the original post was about fingerings, I'll say that I've always found it easier to fret the e and b strings with my pinky and ring fingers instead of barring them both with my pinky like dave does. Is this what you're referring to billywestom?

wow i just tried that, that is WEIRD i guess just because im not used to it

I learned using index, ring, and pinky for those chords because it came natural. I was dumbfounded when I found out Dave uses his middle finger for that chord. I didn't even try to switch right away but eventually I did. using the ring is still more comfortable for me, though. its just less of a stretch that way. and it allows you to play this chord: 5-7-9-6-x-x
