B Tuning???

Just one question... What is the difference between B tuning and Baritone tuning

. Do you tune up for B tuning and down for Baritone. Someone let me know...

as far as i know, they are the same....when i play baritone songs and "b-tuning" songs i use the same tuning - tuning down...they sound right.

Well, I had the right tuning in mind and I tried to do it correctly and I popped my D string

. Now I will have to buy new strings.

Anyone know if popping strings is preventable when you crank 'em up to high B-tuning? Does that just depend on your guitar? Is there an adjustment you can make to keep that from happening? Buying strings is hard a moneyless college man...

can't really tune a normal guitar to Raised B tunning. From what I know dave uses his Custom Taylor Baritone and tunes it up. I guess it can handle the stress of tunning up that many steps. You will just have to put a capo on the 7th fret.

Dave has a Taylor Baritone? :shock:

EDIT: Never mind, I realized this is the one he used at Farm Aid, no? I could only think of his JJ..

yes, he does, but he most certainly does not tune it up. he would have to tune it up an entire octave and that would defeat the whole purpose of having a BARITONE guitar. he uses his 714c with the aforementioned restringing.

cool, I wasn't too sure about the baritone being tuned up either. do you have to use a heavier gauge string to be able to tune up that far with out the strings snapping?

This kinda goes along w/ this subject......I've never really tried much with alternate tunings besides drop D, but any help on how to tune to these B tunings would be greatly appreciated. Ive only got the basic tuner, and i havent the ear yet for what f# sounds like....thanks

well, it is my understanding that you can't do either with a regular guitar and normal set of strings. For Baritone you need a baritone guitar, and for raised B I'm guessing that the high e and b strings would be replaced with like a G or D string? Cause I've tried some goofy tunnings and you're just begging to get snapped in the eyes with a string tunning up 6 and a half steps. But you can just put a capo on the 7th fret. It helps to have a cutaway when you do that though.
