Hello and switching guitars midsong
Hey, I've posted a few times but never really introduced myself. My name is Jon and I've been playing Dave stuff for about 2 years. I got to school at Notre Dame but am home in St. Louis for the summer.
Quick question: Last night at the show, during one of the new songs, I think it was Joy Ride, Dave started out with one guitar and then after the first verse a tech guy brought in another guitar and Dave made the switch without missing a beat. Anyone seen him do that before?

I wasn't close enough to see if that happened, but I was just wondering if maybe the first part of the song could have been in standard and then switch to drop-D or vice versa because he switched between Taylor 914's.jsgksu wrote:do you know if he had possibly broken a string? That would be my only guess.

I dont know why he would switch tunings unless it was a drastic change. Like Raised B or Baritone. IMO, it would be useless. I am sure he knows how to play songs in each and convert them to the other. not too hard.ndfilth wrote:I wasn't close enough to see if that happened, but I was just wondering if maybe the first part of the song could have been in standard and then switch to drop-D or vice versa because he switched between Taylor 914's.jsgksu wrote:do you know if he had possibly broken a string? when i went and saw Third Day in april they switched guitars pretty much every song. they had a guitar rack backstage heh. someone would bring them the next guitar they were supposed to use.

you are correct. i was in the 5th row and i could see the string hanging down. it was the low e.ecs787s wrote:yeah, I was really close and it looked like he broke his lowE string. He was playing damn hard on it, almost as if he was beating on it. He was really smooth about it, and like someone else said, didn't miss a beat in his voice.
