does anyone else have a problem wth a high pitched noise coming from the low e(the thinner one) when muting the verse?
this is like dave saying, "i only just found out that i look like this(taking a shit) when i sing." i need to fix this problem so any help would be cool.
thanks.

You might be presssing a little to hard for a mute on the high e string? You should practice muting all the strings strum and see if you don't hear it still.
The hitting only the 5th 4th 3rd strings is all good advice. however you should be able to mute without that high pitched noise because you will need to play it muted in other tunes.

I just hold my finger over the strings in such a way that when moving from the verse slide to the main part of the verse I can strum muted strings. Practice.

What MWR said, I usually find myself accidentally playing the 7th fret harmonic on the b string (but not the e).
