After hearing Dave play with his Martin and Taylor live, I was wondering which tone do you guys think sounds better with the band.
I not asking which is a better guitar, I asking wether the bright Taylor or Mellow Martin sounds better with the band overall.

With the band, I think the Taylor is a better choice because it cuts a little more. You don't really need all that bass when you're playing with the full band. I liked the way his chet sounded more than the martin or taylor when he's full band, but he doesn't use it too much anymore. When it's Dave solo, or with Tim, I like the martin a whole lot more.

I prefer the Martin DM3MD all the way. That guitar remains why Listener Supported is my favorite live album. It just has a cool, pure, laid back sound that is very pleasing to the ear. The taylor is good for its ability to cut through the band, but it has a tendancy to overpower the other instruments too much. Central Park is a good example of this, although this is useful anyway if you are trying to listen to the guitar part to learn how to play it.

I just perfer Martins more, and the more rythmic sound of a dreadnaught. I mean, he has good taylors, and I like his 12 string more than the D-35 12 string that Tim has.

Yeah, the W65 is the sickest guitar. It just has that cool dark sound.

The chet was okay, but i still like the martin the most. the Lakewood he used for L@LC wasn't bad, though.

I actually prefer the Martin to the Taylor both full-band and solo/D+T. He played a full band show recently on one of the late-night shows with the DM3MD and it sounded fucking badass. The Taylor sounds phenomenal on Central Park, though.
