So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I believe someone had already been posted this type of thread before, but I'm just so curious about how dave mute the strings.
It just looks like he's strumming at least 4 strings but hits on the only one note, ya know? for the example, Crash into Me, What would you say, Ants Marching...
Just like everyone does, I wanna play like Dave

he doesn't mute as much as these boards suggest. When he mutes, most of the time it's just the finger he is fretting just lays over the other few strings to mute. He really doesn't palm mute, and he normaly doesn't strum the whole guitar, just around the certain part he is fretting.

he is like a soldier, you know what I mean. Those strings are his friends, ya know? And the guitar is like 'nam. Now, he needs to get his buds.He can only get acertain amount everytime, so he skips a few. However, he cant just go straight in, he has to take an angle. So he comes from the side, you know, where the ladies like it. He puts his finger on his friends and gets a certain one. Next thing you know, he is gone. He is like......sneaky, ya know?

Dave's an incredible songwriter, lyrically and instrumentally, but his stuff isn't as hard to play as it's made out to be on this board. You'll figure the muting out, no worries.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

watch his hands very carefully on concert videos.

Fact: Dave Mathhews Mutes (Some tunes are harder to mute in than others) Example: Grey Street and So damn lucky are easier than Warehouse and Ants marching. Fact: Dave Mathhews Does Play guitar like a tour of duty in Nam. Example: the finger stretches in crash are like humping it through the bush day in day out but your feet infected but you don't dare stop because charlie is closing in.
