I need some help!

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I need some help!

Unread post by shep555 » Sun Mar 09, 2003 8:05 pm

I got my first guitar a couple months ago, and its an electric. I just learned "crash into me" and I was wondering if anyone could give me suggestions on another dave song that would be fairly easy to learn and would be a good choice to try next... :?:

Thanks,
Shep

try billies, the nature intro is rough at first, but, you can fuck around with the band intro, also, the chorus is easy, the verse is tough, start dinkin with the stone i recommend, takes a while but fun as hell, some other stuff, maybe try grey street, two step, ants of course, too much, 41--to start gettin used to them big stretch chords, and what the hell, when the world ends too, just a few thoughts, peace

TRIPPING BILLIES
the ground beneath is nothing more than one point of view

I would have to agree with Lie in Our Graves... its got a good "Dave rhythm" and you learn those wacky "Dave chords" in the long jam (7xx7xx, 10xx11xx, etc etc). Warehouse is good too, but if ya want something else that is nice and simple try Sattelite or Ants. Thigns like the Billies verse and the Stone verse might be a bit overwhelming for someone who just started playing the guitar.

But like grave said... if you pick up a song and something is too tough, move on to something new. When you come back to it in a few months (or even weeks) you'll be suprised how unflexible your fingers were, and you wont believe how you couldn't "pull that off" and you'll enjoy playing all that much more.

i dont consider satellite easy but i do agree about the dont practice it for a while and come back later. i think i spent 5 minutes practicing smts one day and i put my guitar down and never practiced it for a month or something. the first time i tried it i got it. it just happens that way

Its a stretch if you play the riff the right way, but when I learned it I used my pointer finger for both the 4 on the E string and the 6 on the A string, then just slid a power chord shape down the neck. It was much easier for me to learn and I would just look in awe at my buddy who played it the right way thinkin "WOW that looks TOUGH" but now I don't think twice about it.
