How does dave play his major chords on the A string

Unread post by two steps too many » Fri Mar 07, 2003 9:19 pm

Does he use the 2 finger method or the 4?? I have trouble getting the e string to ring when using the 2 finger method from the first to about fifth fret, higher then that the finger can get that e string note no problem.

But yeah, which way does dave use most often?

Dave Matthews has a unique style of playing. As a result, he plays standard chords certain ways. This section is only here because I am trying to give you the most accurate way to play DMB songs. Here is how Dave plays certain standard chords

Dave has two ways of play an A chord. He either just bars the 3 notes on the second fret with his first finger of plays is like this:

E:----
B:-2-- <---3
G:-2-- <---1
D:-2-- <---2
A:----
E:----

If Dave plays the A chord barred it will be indicated by a 1 under the the chord to show what finger he uses. If no finger is shown than he uses the fingering above.

as far as i know he uses those two standard ways and then there's the say goodbye A which is played: 5476xx. i'm sure there are many more ways and i can probably play them but suck at chord identification and names. hope that helps.

yeah it's all good, it's just hard for me to get that note on the high e to ring when using two fingers becuase my ring finger is almost allways touching the high e when barring those other 3 strings

pretty much i just gotta play it more, i don't think i'm gonna find an easy answer to make it work unless i use 4 fingers which I don't like to do if i don't have to

I really doubt anyone, dave included, makes a big deal out of that high e. You dont really have to strive to get it to ring out, it doesnt matter, sounds fine anyway.

You hit it right on the head...if Dave plays it barred it will be shown by a 1 underneath

Say Goodbye is not played like that, and has never been. It goes 54x6xx
