Strumming

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Strumming

Unread post by dbow » Sat Apr 10, 2004 4:18 am

I'm not sure if this is 'meant' for this board, but... I have been coming here for about 4 months when I started playing guitar cause I was always into Dave's music. I am good with my fret hand but I can't strum worth a crap. Well it's probably not that bad but I have a problem with upstrokes, and i always force my hand to stop for some reason I don't just let it loose. Is there any way to get over this? Oh and sometimes I'll start soft then for some reason just go hard and faster when I shouldn't.

Best thing you can do is to keep working on it.

practice makes perfect.

I had the same problem, try this website and practice the strumming exercises. It's free and it certainly helped me in like a day's time, actualy a few hours.

The exercises may seem stupid or trivial, even very beginner-ish, but honestly give it a try. It works!

dmb isn't a good style to get better at strumming, since he has odd rythms, and hard ones sometimes. I would stick to early dylan to start, since his music is more lyrical dominant, and is simple, but nice.

start simple then, move up.

Hey just glad you liked it :)
Glad it helped too :)

RT, Dylan is definitely some good advice. Also, try early or late Beatles. They have some good "strum" along songs. Good Thread all together.
