one sweet world intro

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

one sweet world intro

Unread post by mfpukala11 » Fri Mar 26, 2004 7:44 pm

i've been learning to play the intro to OSW, the one dave plays with the full band. i listen to the audio clip on this site, and then play it using the same tab, yet it sounds different. more specifically, the section with the 0h1p0 on the G string. when i play it, it just doesnt sound right. any suggestions/tips?

I play the intro along with the recording using the tab from this website. I find it flows pretty nicely actually.

OSW intro is probably the hardest thing I've tried to learn to date. I finally gave up and decided to try later! Good Luck!!

It's one of the most enjoyble things to play that dave wrote, imo.

That's what I do. I used to do 0h1p0 with out hitting the string again, but it didn't sound right at all. Then I tried hitting the open string twice, and it sounds so much better. It's very fluid now.

You just have to keep on practicing it. Find a dave solo version, or atleast a very mellow version and it'll totally help out. I'm pretty sure the tab on the site is accurate.

I agree. I definetely have to play that song, usually everyday when i'm playing/practicing.

Does anyone know if timmy wrote the intro?

i'm pretty sure Tim wrote it. i think it was written as a finger exercise.

i don't know if this helps at all, but if you want i did a recording of crash, if you dl it, and skip all the way to the end i put a quick little version of OSW instro. its not perfect, but it was a first try and if you think it might help, dl away http://www.angelfire.com/blog/gravesrr7 ... ixdown.mp3

it isn't Tim style for that type of tune. I am sure Tim didn't write it. Maybe he helped Dave do it, but it is not a solo Tim tune. Take it from a big Tim Reynolds fan, it is not Tim's style, and there would have been jam improv parts in it. It's a looping single note type of tune that Dave is famous for.

Also, it's laughable (no offense to anyone) to bea finger excersize. A finger excersize would be far less notes, and something to repeate quickly to drill into your brain. The placements are so vast and odd that it isn't a finger excersize. Satelite is likely to have been (as it is told) since it focuses on a stretch and takes place ina general area, and the looping quickly drills in your brain.

Back to the original question....I thought the same thing when i started to learn it. Try playing 0h1 0 instead of 0h1p0 and see how it sounds to you. I.E., don't pull off to the open sting, pick it instead. I think that's the way it's played...at least that's what I hear. Give it a shot and see what you think.

I'm almost 100% sure tim wrote it as a warm up excercise for the band when he was with them often
