ants marching

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

This is my last post on this topic to get a better understanding of what he does watch the dvd live folson field. The best way to describe what Dave does (not the finger placement) just the pick strum is that it 's like the intro/verse to stay. he mutes all but two strings and strums. He does a similar thing in ants marching but only holds down one note at a time (first strum 4/5 slide 2nd finger lift finger add the 1st finger to 4 on the next strum, and mute strings with 3rd finger. You will have to play around with this to get a better feel.

good luck

Tom

Ok, this topic might be getting a little old, but for the finger placement on the G chord...is it..

Code: Select all

E:-3-- <---- 4
B:-0--
G:-0--
D:-0--
A:-2-- <---- 2
E:-3-- <---- 3

i always play this for G:

Code: Select all

e:-3
B:-3
G:-0
D:-0
A:-2
E:-3
i think it sounds better this way.

Well I know different variations of the chord, how to make it fuller, I am just wondering if playing the G the way I showed two posts up is faster , when looking at transitions, rather than your way of playing it, shane.

thats all a matter of how you learned it... if i tried to play your G then it would take me a while to get the fingering down because of the way i learned it. even if i used my fingering but took away the 3B it would take me a while.

i've read all the repies too this thread and welll, this is how i play ants...
first its a D and then a quick down-stroke mute. then with my middle finger i slide from 4/5(on the A string) and then I hit the 4th fret with my pointer(twice)and then slide up from 5/7 with my ring fringer on the D string, and then a quick slam strum on D and then another quick muting down stroke. basically i do that over and over again until the chorus. i'm drunk as usual but i think/hope that makes sense. i have basically forgot what i was explaining here but i think it was the ants intro
did this help? peace.

I made a little recording. I try to explain it (or atleast how I do it). It's not very good quality as all I have a crappy mic and a crappy guitar, plus I'm sick this weekend. Hope this helps.

Disclaimer: I in no way claim to be good at guitar.
