Yeah I had trouble with that too. I was trying to keep my other fingers in position while laying my pinky down. I couldn't do it and said fuck it. So I started with like a "hammer-on" if you will. Soon enough I got my timing down and the hammer on is now a clean strike. Like Big Speen said, Dave kinda slaps the notes as he moves up the fret board.
