Another new guy

Another new guy

I know you pros get this a lot, but I'm relatively new to this guitar thing. I can play Crash Into Me pretty well, although my hand hurts like hell :D Anyway, that came fairly quickly to me but i've tried some other stuff that people have said was easy and i'm having no such luck. Any suggestions as to what would be the next logical step?

Well new guy, welcome. I don't know if I'm the proper guy to welcome you as I've only been here for a little over a month. Anyway, it's cool to see more people getting into DMB's music.
Crash Into Me was actually the first song I learned (although I didn't play it EXACTLY like Dave does) and it was a fun one. I don't know which song would be the next logical one for you to learn, but Satellite, #34 and The Stone is always good for left hand finger work. For songs that might help you with basic chords and rythm (especially if you're new to guitar) I would suggest their cover of Cortez the Killer or Spoon from BTCS. If you have questions or want some personal experience advice, then feel free to IM me.

i think you should learn a song with 'dave' chords in it. i would try tripping billys or grey street. and if you haven't already, i'd check out kanters 'dave style lessons' http://www.dmbtabs.com/lessons.php?id=1 good luck and welcome!

Don't set on an all out tangent to learn a song. Learn a part here or there. Like half of the verse or chorus. Put it away for a little bit and come back to it. I will sit down and slowly play a song and memorize it, and pick at it (don't put too much pressure on yourself). I have learned more songs this way. Just a little at a time.
