Two Step

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Two Step

Unread post by DaveFan32578 » Mon Mar 08, 2004 2:03 am

Anyone have a video of the strumming part of the intro/verse for Two Step? I know it is not that hard, I just have trouble with the timing.

Any help is appreciated!

I'd honestly have to say that two step strumming varies way too much for someone to make a set video for it.. just practice with quick down up strums and you'll start to feel it develope

I knw that there is a great variation with this song. I am only looking for a base of understading.

It is in simple 4/4 time. The trick is to ignore the violin when you're listening to the intro and ignore the vocal when you're listening to the verse. Learn the guitar part. Listener Supported or Live at Luther College are both great versions (I have the LS video and it helped a ton). A metronome is a huge help on this song. 112 beats per minute and count off 4 beats for each chord change in the intro. The verse is a bit trickier but, once you've got the pattern it will come pretty easily. It's a very satisfying song to play. Good luck.

If you know your music teminology the basic strumming pattern is 16th notes in the intro. When he changes chords, it is on the upbeats. You hit the Low E string of course. For the verse, Id learn it first with straight 16, upbeats being the downstrolks. If you can here Carter's base drum is a solid 1,2,3,4 downbeat pattern. If you want, I can write out exactly what beats the chord changes are.
