dammit granny

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

not really, but to keep trying.... I stopped playing it for quite awhile, but listened to it frequently, then when I went back to it, it just kinda clicked. I can't really explain wtf he does there, but just keep trying, and mess around a lot with different muting techniques

That song is just sweet. It's 3 distinctly different guitar parts that just sound so well together. It's a fun one.

well i think i may have had the same problem :)

whenever i would play it just wouldn't sound right and there was always something missing and i finally figured it out. what i was doing wrong was when i would play the last 2 notes before the mute i would only hit both of them once and it would never sound right. well then i watched the central park video and i noticed that on those two notes he was still strumming and would actually hit both of them 3 or 4 times. and now it sounds just right.

i'm not sure if that's the problem you're having but that was mine and hopefully it'll help you out some :)

i do the 3-2 on the low e, scrape the strings with my pick, and go up to twelve and hit harmonics...it's hard to type out in words though. haha

maybe i'll record that part so you can hear, otherwise you probably dont get it

Yep, Dave hits the Low E more than just once, I have to agree with elijah on that. I also think that may your problem ;-) So since I was going to post that myself, I'll just agree with what's been said ;-)

thats how i play it too... i dont care if its right or not, it doesnt sound any different to me and its MUCH easier- you definitely hit the G and F# notes 3 times each before the mute, thats how ive always played it (if thats what we're even talking about)

i wanna hear this harmonics thing

if you listen to some of the dave and tim recordings of the song you can hear timmy do the harmonic at the 5th fret it sounds sweet. i usually hit it when i play the song its just a little something that adds a lot to the song.
